The surroundings feature arenas, convention facilities, modern residential developments and wide arterial roads rather than historic streets or beachfront promenades. BRT Olympic Center serves the district, while Jardim Oceânico Metro station lies much farther east and can be reached by BRT or road transport. Taxis or app-based cars are useful for the beaches, central Rio, airports and most major sightseeing landmarks outside Barra da Tijuca.

• FARMASI Arena – approximately 1.1 kilometres; published road relationship: A major indoor arena in the Olympic Park district used for concerts, sporting events and entertainment.
• Olympic Golf Course – approximately 3 kilometres: An 18-hole course built for the Rio 2016 Olympic golf competitions in Barra da Tijuca.

May to October generally brings milder and comparatively drier conditions for exploring Rio de Janeiro, while December to March is hotter, more humid and popular for beach holidays and Carnival travel. Heavy summer showers can affect road journeys even when they are short-lived. Barra Olímpica becomes particularly busy during major concerts, conventions and sporting events. Travellers attending Riocentro or Olympic Park should therefore consider event dates as well as weather when choosing their stay.
